Where You Will Be

This program is offered by the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. The Study Abroad component is in Ghana at the Dagara Music Center, located in Medie just north of Ghana’s Capital city, Accra.

What You Will Learn

Sign up for MUS 4326 or MUS 5435. This semester long course, offered by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, includes one week of study during the February break at the Dagara Music Center. At the center, located in Medie north of Ghana’s Capital city of Accra, student’s receive daily instruction in the performing arts. In addition, students will study African history and languages, visit Cape Coast Castle, Anumabu Beach Resort, and Kakum National Park.

Friday, Feb. 25 - Depart Detroit

Saturday, Feb. 26 - Arrive in Accra, Ghana

Sunday, Feb. 27 – Check in and Welcome Activities at the Dagara Music Center

Monday, Feb. 28 – Full Day of Lessons at Dagara Music Center

Daily Schedule at the Dagara Music Center

7 - 8:15 a.m. - Breakfast

8:30 - 11:30 a.m. - Morning lessons

Noon - 4 p.m. – Midday break for lunch, rest, writing, and short excursions

4:30 - 7:30 p.m. - Evening lessons

8 p.m. - Dinner

Tuesday, March 1 – Lessons at the DMC and go to Accra: National Museum, Lunch, Arts Center, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.

Wednesday, March 2 - Trip to Cape Coast, Tour of Cape Coast Castle, Afternoon at Anomabu Beach Resort

Thursday, March 3 – Morning at Anomabu Beach Resort, afternoon at Kakum National Park then return to the DMC

Friday, March 4 - Full Day of Lessons at Dagara Music Center

Saturday, March 5 – Morning Lessons, Afternoon final performance and party. Evening depart DMC to airport

Sunday, March 6 – Arrive in Detroit

Students will attend a pre-departure meeting and receive a list of items to bring.

Cost
All-Inclusive Program Fee - $3,000

Includes roundtrip airfare to Ghana, travel within Ghana, all meals, housing, studies at the Dagara Music Center, admission to museums.
